How do I measure my pet?

Follow this instruction!

The right size of the crate is crucial for the comfort of your pet during the trip. If it is too small, your pet will not be able to move freely. In turn, a crate that is too large will cause unnecessary costs for you. Therefore, it is important that you determine the most important dimensions of your pet in advance. This is particularly easy to do with a measuring tape. But what needs to be measured and how?

1) Length
Measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail. Please do not measure the tail as well!

2) Width
Measure the width of the shoulders at the widest part of your pet.

3) Height
Measure the distance from the ground to the highest point of the head. If your animal has standing ears, the tips of the ears are the highest point.

If you rent a crate, these size measurements are sufficient to make the right choice for your four-legged friend. If you would like to buy a crate yourself, we will be happy to advise you in advance. As a general rule, the following rule of thumb applies:
> Length of the crate = Length of the animal + 10-30 cm
> Width of the crate = width of the animal x 2
> Height of the crate = Height of the animal + 15 cm

For small animals and reptiles, such elaborate measurements are usually not necessary. Here, rough estimates are sufficient so that your animal can stay comfortably in its crate.

Other measurements

If, on the other hand, you would like to buy a new harness for your dog, for example, you will need further information such as neck and chest circumference. For many breeds, there is an approximate size specification that you can use as an initial guide. Nevertheless, you should always measure your four-legged friend exactly so that everything is a perfect fit. For young animals, please also note that a growth spurt makes it necessary to measure again.

If your pet travels with PetAir, we need the measurements to create your individual offer. If necessary, we will provide you with a suitable crate for the trip. Please feel free to send us your questions at any time!
