What you should know before you travel to South Africa
What should you consider if you want to travel to South Africa with your pet?
In order to be allowed to travel to cities in South Africa (Johannesburg, Cape Town, Namibia, Nairobi) with your pet, you need an import permit. This can be requested from an appropriate Director of Veterinary Services. Depending on your destination in South Africa, find out in advance which veterinary office is responsible.
You must also present an international health certificate to the veterinary authority upon arrival in South Africa, certifying that your animal is healthy, free of parasites and has all the necessary vaccinations. When vaccinating against rabies, care must be taken to ensure that it was carried out at least 30 days before entering Namibia, Nairobi, Johannesburg or Cape Town and was not older than eleven months. Make sure that your animal's health certificate is not older than three days at the time of entry.
Why travel to the different cities of South Africa?
Immerse yourself in a completely different world! The continent of Africa invites you to an adventure with breathtaking landscapes, vast savannas and a fascinating animal world: Discover the different facets of South Africa with your pet: In Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nairobi and Namibia, contrasting aspects such as modern sections mixed with untouched nature.
With around 60 million inhabitants, South Africa is a place full of culture, tradition and nature. The best time to travel is between May and September. It is a comfortable 24°C, which is particularly beneficial for active travelers who want to explore the individual cities of South Africa. An exciting safari or extensive hikes with your pet through the beautiful landscapes of South Africa are ideal in this climate - not too hot, full water bodies and only rarely rainy days.
If you plan to explore Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nairobi and Namibia by car, remember that South Africa drives on the left. It is recommended not to drive at night as many local wildlife are nocturnal and often run across roads at night.
Which animals are native to South Africa?
There are numerous national parks in South Africa and the surrounding area where you can observe the native wild animals in their natural environment. A recommendation is the Etosha National Park, which every animal lover should visit.
Open and wide areas of land and savannas allow you to observe the animals undisturbed. South Africa has the largest cheetah population in the world. Here you can also experience giants such as giraffes and elephants up close. Lions, zebras and various species of antelope (impala and oryx) may also cross your path. Jackals and black rhinos are also native to South Africa. The latter are threatened with extinction.

I have sent a dog to the United States twice using PetAir ...
... once in August 2016 and again now in January 2018. The service was excellent both times: every question has been answered promptly and competently, I have received all the relevant data (flight numbers etc.) within 24 hours and of all the annoying paperwork, I have only had to deal with the absolutely necessary. The care of the dogs during the transportation was to the point. Given my experience, I can only recommend PetAir.

We set up our shipment for a military move from Germany ...
... back to the US. The team was responsive, professional, and worked with us to find a good price option on multiple carriers. When we showed up with our dogs and crates, they provided a larger one free of charge based on their visual check of our dog’s size inside the crate being a bit snug for the airline we were using. The front office was kind and friendly!

Send animals... only with PetAir.
Everything uncomplicated and very good advice.
I used Pet Air to ship my fur baby to New Zealand in November ...
... and I could not be any happier with the great service I received. I had contacted a few pet freight companies and Pet Air offered the most competitive, reasonable quote providing the same flight and schedule. Vineet dealt with my enquiry from the beginning to the end and he was always very professional, helpful, informative, quick, going above and beyond to make sure everything is in order. My boy has made it to Auckland sound and safe and will be released from Quarantine tomorrow! Thank you so much Pet Air
