What you should know before you travel to South Africa
What should you consider if you want to travel to South Africa with your pet?
In order to be allowed to travel to cities in South Africa (Johannesburg, Cape Town, Namibia, Nairobi) with your pet, you need an import permit. This can be requested from an appropriate Director of Veterinary Services. Depending on your destination in South Africa, find out in advance which veterinary office is responsible.

You must also present an international health certificate to the veterinary authority upon arrival in South Africa, certifying that your animal is healthy, free of parasites and has all the necessary vaccinations. When vaccinating against rabies, care must be taken to ensure that it was carried out at least 30 days before entering Namibia, Nairobi, Johannesburg or Cape Town and was not older than eleven months. Make sure that your animal's health certificate is not older than three days at the time of entry.
